Raycom Sports

LINCOLN, Calif. -- Juli Inkster fired a final-round 72 to repeat as champion at the 2000 Longs Drugs Challenge at the Twelve Bridges Golf Club today. Inkster fired rounds of 70-67-66-72=275 to claim the $105,000 first-place check. At 13-under par, she set a new tournament record for lowest total score.

Inkster had a string of 42 holes without a bogey, from hole #3 in the second round to hole #10 in the final round. She posted 14 birdies in that stretch.

She has successfully defended a title for the fourth time in her career. She repeated at the Lady Keystone Open in ’85 and ’86, the Crestar Classic in ’88 and ’89, and the Samsung World Championship in ‘97 and ‘98.

Brandie Burton finished second at –8 with a total score of 69-69-68-74=280. She was as close as four-strokes with three holes to play but could get no closer.

Carin Koch posted a third-place finish, sixr-strokes back at –7 with a four-day total of 69-69-69-74=281. She has played in the last group of the final round two of the past three years at the Longs Drugs Challenge.

Notes
Juli Inkster set a new tournament record for Par-72 lowest total score at 275. The previous record of 278 was set by Donna Andrews in 1998. Kelly Robbins and Val Skinner hold the record for Par-71 with a final score of 273 in 1996.

Inkster’s three-round total of 70-67-66=203 is a new tournament record for low score after three rounds. The previous record of 209 was set by Donna Andrews and Carin Koch in 1998. The Par-71 record of 207 was set by Annika Sorenstam and Barb Mucha in 1996.

Cy and Mary Bauer once again worked the leaderboard in the media center. The retired couple are regular volunteers for the PGA, Senior PGA and LPGA Tours, driving some 4,000 miles a year to volunteer for leaderboard duty at the various tournaments.
